On May 22-28, 2017 prof. Pidlisnyuk and Dr.Stefanovska made a mission trips to Belgium. The main goals were: a) to participate at the 69th International Symposium on Crop Protection with reports; to visit to the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO), to meet with representatives of Ukrainian Mission and SPS Programmer Offices for G4687 at NATO Headquarter in Brussels. The additional goal was to agree on actions for Patent preparation within the G4687.
Four reports where presented at the Symposium, organized by Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Gent University, i.e.
- Section “Pesticides residues, toxicology and ecotoxicology”:
Nurzhanova A., Pidlisnyuk V., Kenessov B., Sailaukhanuly Y., Trogl J., Aligulova R., Kalugin S., Nurmagambetova А., Abit K. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated by organochlorine pesticides using miscanthus
- Section “Agricultural Entomology and Acarology”:
Stefanovska T., Chumak P., Kovalchuk V., Kava L., Pidlisnyuk V. State of the art on adaptability of Miscanthiococcus miscanthi (Takahashi) (Homoptera, Pseudococcidae) followed by introducing of Miscanthus x giganteus
- Section “Nematology”:
Skwiercz A., Stefanovska T., Zouhar M., Kornobis F., Pidlisnyuk V. Monitoring of plant parasitic nematodes of Miscanthus x giganteus, highly potential crop for commercial biofuel production in Ukraine
Skwiercz A., Stefanovska T., Zouhar M., Kornobis F., Pidlisnyuk V., Nematode community composition associated with Miscanthus x giganteus in Ukraine growing on polluted and non-polluted sites
While at the conference Dr.Stefanovska and prof. Pidlisnyuk had brief discussed meeting with prof. Patrick De Clercq, Gent University, prof. Ahmed Kamal Mourad, Department of Plant protection, Alexandria University, Egypt, prof. Dr. Peter Baur, Head of Competence Center Crop Solutions, Clariant, Frankfurt am Main, Germany and Mg. John Riviere, Haute Ecole Condorcet, Province de Hainaut, Belgium.
Prof. Pidlisnyuk and Dr. Stefanovska had a professional meeting with prof.Pieter Spanoghe, Laboratory of Crop Protection Chemistry, Department of Crop Protection, Gent University. Data on growing M.giganteus at the military soil contaminated by obsolete pesticides and metals (military site at Mairi, Kazakhstan) was of joint interests. It was pointed out that big concentrations of DDT accumulated by plant during 2 year of experiment can be a problem for further use of biomass. That question requested additional microbiology study. The framework of PhD study at Gent University was discussed as well. PhD program at GU is very international, provided in English language and attracted a big number of students from across the world. The program may be selected as example for the future PhD in phytotechnology is planned to create at UJEP.
Dr. Stefanovska and prof. Pidlisnyuk visited research laboratories at the Department of Crop protection and had conversations with researchers and PhD students. The modern equipment of Agrozoology Lab used for nematology research was introduced by Mgr. Hendrik Van Caenegem.
They visited Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO) under the leadership of Flanders Government, located at Merelbeke and had a scientific discussion with Dr. Lieven Waeyenberge, Nematology Diagnostic LAB. The joint interests in developing the nematology indicators for the estimation of soil quality changing during phytotechnology application were discussed. Dr.Stefanovska would keep consultation with Dr.Waeyenberge on nematode communities are monitored at the research site in Dolyna and Kurakhovo, Ukraine. Dr.Nicole Damme presented equipment used at the Department of Plant Sciences for nematodes communities’ extraction. The option for detection nematodes communities at the research soils from Dolyna and Kurakhovo was discussed.
Prof. Pidlisnyuk and Dr. Stefanovska had two meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels. They discussed the project’s goals and planned actions with Mr.Yehor Bozhok, Head of the Ukrainian Mission at NATO and Dr. Natalia Melnyk, First Secretary of the Mission. Also they met with Dr.Susanne Michaelis and Ms.Eva Hoxha: NATO SPS Programmer Offices for G4687. The peculiarities of the financial report were overviewed and requests toward improving the financial records form for Milestone 1 were formulated. The next activities planned within the project including training 2 at UJEP and sustainability seminar at KSU were discussed as well.
Prof. Pidlisnyuk and Dr.Strefanovska had a professional meeting at Oostende and discussed plan and content of Patent which has to be created based on PGRs used during growing of M.giganteus at the military contaminated land in Ukraine and Czech Republic. It was agreed to coordinate the research, to constantly exchange information and research data. Also the necessity of consultation with specialists from Patent’s service in Ukraine and Czech Republic was pointed out.
