Dessimination of the projet resuts at the BioRemid2019, Portugal

The Second International conference on new strategy in bioremediation process BioRemid2019 was organized in Porto, Portugal on October 24th and 25th, 2019. The event was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) supported by Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT): Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE), Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering – Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM) and Research Center of Natural Resources and Environment (CERENA). The objective of this meeting was to broadly discuss the latest developments and innovations in the fields of microbiology, bioremediation and phytoremediation. In particular, topics on identification and monitoring of biohazards, strategies to remediate sites polluted with emerging and priority pollutants, consortium-based strategies, the impact of anthropogenic activities on the native microbial communities and waste recovery were under the priorities. NATO country Director prof. Pidlisnyuk, young researchers from UJEP: PhD student Nebeska and PostDoc Pranaw and partner country Director Dr. Stefanovska, NULES disseminated results of the project summarized in 4 presentations delivered at the conference, i.e:

Dr.Stefanovska presented report “Impact of phytotechnologies with cultivation of Miscanthusxgiganteus to nematode communities in metals contaminated sites (authors: Stefanovska, Pidlisnyuk, Hettiarachchi, Todd, Alasmary); Dr.Pranaw presented report ”Isolation and characterization of plant growth promoting miroorganisms from heavy metals contaminated soil and their potential role in phytotechnology with Miscanthusxgiganteus”( authors:Pranaw, Pidlisnyuk, Malinska,Trogl); PhD Nebeska presented report “Possibility of application of Miscanthusxgiganteus in soil contaminated by the petroleum industry” (authors: Nebeska, Trogl, Pidlisnyuk); prof.Pidlisnyuk presented report “Phytostabilization of a contaminated military site using biofueld crop and soil amendments: a field study” (authors: Alasmary, Hettiarachchi, Roozenboom,Davis, Erickson,Pidlisnyuk,Stefanovska, Trogl).

While at the conference prof. Pidlisnyuk, Dr.Stefanovska had a number of discussions with participants of the conferences, including with Dr. Simona Di Gregorio, University of Pisa, Italy; prof. Philippe Corvini, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Northwestern Switzerland School of Life Science; prof.Olga Nules, University of Porto, FEUP and Dr.Cristina Quela, University of Lisbon, Portugal; prof. Garcia Gonzalo, IMIDRA, Spain.

Being in Porto prof. Pidlisnyuk and Dr.Stefanovska did a number of working visits, i.e: to the University of Porto where met with prof. Cristina Vila, FEUP and discussed the joint research on application miscanthus to post-mining sites; to the Agricultural Analytical Laboratory and Porto Polytechnic University, ISER where met with prof. Cristina Matos, prof. Sonia Figueiredo and prof. Carvallo and discussed the joint research in production of biochar from miscanthus biomass harvested in Ukraine at the military sites. They met with Coordinator of the International programmer at ISER Ms. Aleksandra Trincao and discussed the activities within already signed Erasmus agreement between UJEP and ISER and options for future joint programmer in PhD study.
