Detailed discussion of 2019 Lab and Field research in Ukraine

On February, 21-27 NDP Valentina Pidlisnyuk made the mission trip to Ukraine in order to discuss in details the design and practical implementation of the Lab experiment with  miscanthus growing at the simulated oil-contaminated soil. While in Kyiv, Prof Pidlisyuk had a meeting with Dr.Kvak, NULES, Kyiv and discussed the options to use soil amendments: biochar and biochar in combination with humus for improving the miscanthus biomass.

Prof. Pidlisnyuk visited Volodymir Hnatyk National Pedagogical University in Ternopil (IPNPU) and met with Dr. Andrij Herz, Dr.Volodymir Chomenchuk,Dr. Oleksandr Kononchuk and Dr.Olga Buchkovska. It was decided that the experiment with oil-contaminated soil and impact of soil amendments to the biomass   will be established in spring 2019. The university is voluntary willing to provide a green-house space and research field as well as human resources for the experiment. The collaboration will be based on planned bilateral agreement in research and education between UJEP and IPNPU and NULP and IPNPU, the leadership of the research within G4687 will be responsibility of NULP. Colleagues from IPNPU is going to measure changing of the soil parameters during miscanthus vegetation.     Prof.  Pidlisnyuk had a brief meeting in education issues with the Dean of Chemical-Biological Faculty prof. Nadiya Drobuk and visited green house and research field of the university.

While in Lviv prof. Pidlisnyuk discussed in details 2019 research at the field in Dolyna with the members of NATO team Dr.Sc. Pavlo Shapoval, Dr.Martyn Sozanskyi and PhD Vytaliy Stadnik. She also had a discussion regarding further scientific plans  on M.xgiganteus research with professor Josup Jatchishin,Dr.Sc.

Having a goal to stimulate research on miscanthus proceeding to bioproducts prof. Pidlisnyuk met with Dr.Lesya Dzendzelyak, Head of the Laboratory at the  Ukrainian Academy of printing, Lviv. The initial research received by her group on using miscanthus pulp in the different paper processing was discussed.
